The LeadGETTING A LEAD: With the LONG rockers inserted, the runner takes his lead on the BASEBALLANCE positioned in a manner that allows left and right rocking. StealingOut of the previously described stance, the runner can employ either of the two known or instructed methods of stealing a base. 1) From the athletic position, the runner jab steps with the right foot, initiating movement and opening the hips toward the desired base. Upon that jab step, the BASEBALLANCE rocks to the right and the crossover step naturally follows as there is now a downhill plane to accelerate out of. The rocking action of the BASEBALLANCE forces the runner to stay down as he initiates and continues his explosive movement toward the next base. 2) If the crossover is the desired first movement, such should come out of the same initial athletic stance. The left foot accelerates over the right in the direction of the next base. The BASEBALLANCE illustrates the value of the crossover as it highlights the generation of momentum in preparation for the next movement. Again, the rocking action forces the runner down and will not allow him to “stand up” and run. |
